Breaking the 100 limit on Linkedin, Lesson 2

by Network Grabber Support 20. September 2009 08:08

In my previous blog, I discussed how to crack the 100 limit on the basic Linkedin account. There are other ways to do this and, over the next couple of blogs, I will show how to get to the same end result using different methods. Basically, whatever method we use, we want to find a unique identifier to break up the 343 names into sub-groups of 99 or less so we can see everyone at the company. Today I am going to discuss using the Industry search option. The industry search option is interesting because not everyone uses the same Industry at the same company. The software engineer who likes wine might put his industry code as "Wine and Spirits" instead of computer software. Everyone picks an industry code, so it is an obvious choice for trying to break the 100 limit.

In our example company, there are 343 people. Below are the steps for breaking out that 343 into manageable sub-groups.

  1. In the company name field, I put the company name. In the industry field, I picked everything except Computer & Network Security, Computer Networking, Computer Software, Consumer Electronics, Information Technology and Services and Telecommunications. (82 found)
  2. In the company name field, I put the company name. In the industry field, I clear out all of the above and just pick Computer & Network Security and Computer Networking. (61 found)
  3. In the company name field, I put the company name. In the industry field, I clear out all of the above and just pick Computer Software. (62 found)
  4. In the company name field, I put the company name. In the industry field, I clear out all of the above and just pick Consumer Electronics and Information Technology and Services. (28 results)
  5. In the company name field, I put the company name. In the industry field, I clear out all of the above and just pick Telecommunications (110 results)
  6. As you can see in the last search, the number is over 100, so we have to break that out to get all 110, which should be easy.
  7. I redo the last search but in the keywords field, I put the company name and engineer (53 results)
  8. I now just add a - in front of engineer. (57 results)
  9. Total: 343!

As you can see, breaking out these lists is easy, if you have the patience to get creative with your search methodology. The key is to track your results so you know that you have gotten everyone.

Using Network Grabber, I had all of these names in my database again in 20 minutes.

Breaking the 100 limit on Linkedin, Lesson 1

by Network Grabber Support 18. September 2009 12:24

For most users of Linkedin that can't afford the $500 per month Pro account, there are many limitations. One of the biggest limitations is the "100" limit on search results.

With the "100" limit, you can only see the first 100 results in your network. If, for example, your result set has 300 results and all of them are in your network, you will only see the person's name in the first 100. As a recruiter or sales professional, you might want or need to see all 300. We are going to show an easy methodology for getting to all 300 names that can be applied to all of your searches.

Step 1: Find out what you are dealing with!
For this example, I picked a small company that has 343 employees on Linkedin and I want to know all of them.

Step 2: Modify searches to get below 99 or less.
The key is to have all search results below 100 and repeat until you have captured all 343. For this sample project

  1. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field manager engineer (36 results)
  2. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field manager -engineer (86 results)
  3. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field -manager software engineer (71 results)
  4. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field -manager -software engineer (56 results)
  5. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field -manager software -engineer (12 results)
  6. Company name in the company name field and Company name in the Keywords field -manager -software -engineer (82 results)
  7. Total: 343

This is just an example, but the methodology can be applied to any search within linkedin. If you have a Pro Account, the same methodology can be applied but instead of 100, you just have to keep the results below 500.

Using Network Grabber, I have all of the names from this company in my database in under 20 minutes and I am ready to call, e-mail or In-Mail, and track my work.

Business Networking for Recruiting and Sales

by Network Grabber Support 17. September 2009 12:40

In the world of Business Networking, there is one clear leader. With over 30+ million subscribers, Linkedin is to Business Networking what Google is to search. While Linkedin and their competitors do not have everyone in the business world, in the hands of a skilled recruiter or sales professional, they have more than enough. If the business networks don’t have the exact person you are looking for, they will have people that will lead you to key contributors or purchasing managers.

The one pitfall to most business networks is that they are not a CRM or ATS systems and they offer no functionality for transferring contacts into CRM or ATS databases. A good recruiter or sales professional calls 30 to 50 people PER DAY. For even the fastest typists, this would take at least an hour per day and, let’s face it, recruiters and sales professionals aren’t known for their typing skills!

CRM and ATS best practices require tracking of all contacts. In the case of hiring, it is the law. Data entry of any and all contacts should be a part of every recruiter and sales professional’s day, but it doesn’t have to be painful or take up any more time than the time it takes to find them. Network Grabber is the tool that will take the pain out of copying contacts from your business networks and eliminate the time it takes to enter those names into your ATS or CRM.

Network Grabber works with all of the most popular Business Networks and we are rapidly working to add more and more functionality to Network Grabber so that you can acquire contacts from any place you can find a name.

Be sure to read your user agreements before using tools like Network Grabber. While there is no way to detect whether or not you are using Network Grabber, it is extremely addicting. Like all good things, Network Grabber should be used in moderation.
